Get Involved at St. Joseph Parish!

There is no greater gift than giving of oneself.

The vibrant life of our parish and all of its ministries relies on each of our parishioners sharing their time and their talents in the community. We are all called to live as examples of Christ’s love by offering our unique, God-given gifts in service to others.

With so many groups and ministries, finding the right fit may be challenging. You will find descriptions of many of the opportunities for service at St. Joseph Parish in our Ministry Guide.  As you peruse them, you will certainly hear a small voice inside saying, “I have gifts for that” or “I could do that” or “I would find great joy serving in this capacity”. Matching gifts and opportunities is much of what parish ministry is all about. You have many gifts – here are many opportunities!

Prepare and Serve a Meal @ Bertha’s Place

Join a group of parishioners to help prepare and serve meals to residents at Vancouver’s two newest shelters: Bertha’s Place and Bertha’s Too.

These shelters, operated by Catholic Community Services, offer shelter and services to about 90 women, couples, and people over 55. Volunteers will prepare, transport, and serve a meal once a month for the people at each shelter.

Project Homeless Connect (Updated)

Help serve the needs of our neighbors experiencing homelessness by volunteering for Project Homeless Connect this year! Project Homeless Connect is an event that brings together social service providers and people living on the streets, so that the most vulnerable in our community can receive the individualized care they need in one place. Thiis year, on February 24th, Project Homeless Connect will be hosted at St. Joseph’s parish* in Marian Hall from 9 AM to 3 PM. !ere are several volunteer positions available, including 1) Organizing and restocking the clothing area; 2) Running the sign-in desks for service providers; and 3) Reminding guests to follow the COVID protocol of our parish.

*This is a change from past bulletin announcements.

PREPARES

We are building a team of volunteers here at St. Joseph to accompany pregnant women, fathers and their children through the first five years of their child’s life. The team will support them by providing basic needs like diapers, formula, and clothing. They will also help with such services as transportation, organizing play groups and classes, making referrals to community services, and providing family companions.

For more information on any of theses volunteer opportunities or to sign up, please contact our Pastoral Assistant for Social Concerns Ministry, Ian Salzman, email or (360) 823-2832.
